The cream-cheese-stuffed bagel is here

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 23:15:05 GMT

(CNN) — In the 1990s, Pizza Hut unveiled an important cheese-in-bread innovation, the stuffed crust pizza. Now, Philadelphia cream cheese and H&H Bagels, a New York City-based bagel shop, are trying to please the carbohydrate- and dairy-loving communities with a new and dubious spin on the stuffed crust: The bagel stuffed with cream cheese. But unlike stuffed-crust pizzas, the bagel is filled with cheese after it is baked, making it more of a cream cheese bagel donut, if not in spirit then at least in form. The bagels are “baked fresh daily and then cooled to be individually stuffed with Philly’s signature cream cheese one at a time,” according to Jay Rushin, CEO of H&H. “H&H Bagels use a pastry tool to pipe in the Philly cream cheese by hand,” he added. “The process leaves very small holes where the insertions are made, similar to a jelly donut.”The obvious question, as is often the case with food mash-ups, is why. Hallie Hodder, a homeowner in one of the affected areas said she came home at around 5 p.m. and within a few hours, water came rushing into her garage. She believes South Florida Water Management didn’t expect this much water, and they may have opened the floodgates which allowed water in, flooding both sides of the street and the canals behind her home. “I think that they opened up the floodgates, and that’s what flooded our canals and everything, ’cause this never happens. We get maybe a foot above the dock when it’s high tide or we have...

EU Parliament aims to tighten access for Qatari, Moroccan diplomats

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 23:15:05 GMT

The European Parliament is moving to make it harder for representatives of Qatar and Morocco to influence MEPs, after the two countries were embroiled in a bribes-for-influence scandal dubbed Qatargate.According to a new set of guidelines approved by leading MEPs in a behind-closed-doors meeting Thursday and seen by POLITICO, MEPs and staffers are urged to request the Parliament’s permission to invite the countries’ diplomats onto the premises, and the lawmakers also have to inform Parliament President Roberta Metsola whenever they meet them. The guidelines, however, are not binding — meaning that MEPs will not be sanctioned if they fail to adhere to them. They are designed primarily to clarify the state of play for MEPs, and give Metsola and top civil servants better oversight about who is meeting who, amid an ongoing criminal investigation in Belgium into whether MEPs took bribes from Qatar and Morocco. The move is separate from an ongoing transparency and ethics reform...
