The Offspring drew a massive crowd to its concert on Saturday (Aug. 5) at Shoreline Amphitheatre at Mountain View.Just how massive? Well, that’s exactly what Noodles (aka Kevin Wasserman) wanted to know and so he asked someone for the attendance figure. And he was downright amazed at what he, ahem, heard back.“It’s a world record here at Shoreline — 1,019,704 people here tonight,” the Offspring guitarist exclaimed to the crowd.Well, not quite 1,019,704. It was actually more like 18,000. Yet, the energy and enthusiasm going on in the crowd as The Offspring ran through an 80-minute set of hits and fan favorites certainly made the gathering feel even larger.“I can’t believe this,” vocalist Dexter Holland remarked of the response from the audience. “It’s volcanic.”Related ArticlesMusic | Review: Jonas Brothers prep for big Yankee Stadium dates with Bay Area show Music | Swifties react to Kobe Br...Mexican-American documentary highlights Bay Area artists

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers All-Star shortstop Corey Seager was held out of the Texas Rangers’ starting lineup for Sunday afternoon’s home game against the Miami Marlins because of lingering effects of a right-thumb injury suffered last month.Seager injured the thumb on July 21 diving into second base in the eighth inning against his former team, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and was pulled from that game. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 22 and returned last Wednesday. In the four games since his return, Seager has three home runs and six RBIs.He also may miss the road trip opener at Oakland on Monday night. “He’s battling that thing,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “It’s going to flare up a little bit at times. Could he play? Yeah, he could play. But we’re going to try to keep this thing under control.“It’s a pretty big injury, really. It’s amazing what he’s doing with his thumb. I just don’t want it to get to the point where we end up losing him for a while.”Seage...Arsenal beats Man City 4-1 in penalty shootout to win Community Shield

LONDON (AP) — Arsenal has started the English season how the team hopes to end it — by getting the better of Manchester City.Arsenal beat City 4-1 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation Sunday to win the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium, a match that serves as a traditional curtain-raiser to the season. The match is typically played between the winners of last season’s Premier League and FA Cup. Because City won both as part of the title treble also containing the Champions League for the first time, Arsenal took part as the runner-up in the league and might have gained a psychological edge heading into the new campaign that starts on Friday.Cole Palmer curled in a 78th-minute goal after coming off the bench to give City the lead, only for Leandro Trossard to score with a deflected shot in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage time, taking the game to penalties.Kevin De Bruyne hit the crossbar with a powerful strike from the spot and Rodri had an effort saved by Aa...Jags are taking it slow with OL Tyler Shatley after he experienced an irregular heartbeat

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Jacksonville Jaguars offensive lineman Tyler Shatley had felt his heart flutter before, several times in recent years. He never bothered to get it checked until Wednesday. But with a few extra minutes to spare following a hot and humid practice, the 10-year NFL veteran decided to ask team trainers if they knew what was going on. It may have been the best call of his professional career.Doctors determined Shatley was experiencing atrial fibrillation, an irregular and rapid heartbeat. The condition can lead to blood clots in the heart and increases the risk of stroke and heart failure.“It’s just the good Lord looking after me,” Shatley said Sunday. “It’s all good now.”The Jaguars put Shatley on blood thinners to help him regulate the condition. But he’s not allowed to take part in any contact drills while on the medication.“They don’t want you to take any hits to the head,” he said. “They’re just nervous about that.”Shatley was back at practice Saturday ...Las políticas “hostiles” de DeSantis le cuestan a Florida millones de dólares en negocios
